UCLA Biomarker Innovations Laboratory
The Hospital for Sick Children
Description of services:
The UCLA Biomarker Innovations Laboratory (BIL) is a California state licensed and CLIA-certified clinical laboratory founded by Drs. Scott Binder and David Seligson, pathologist-scientists, and is located at one of the world\'s leading hospitals and academic institutions - the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Applications:
The BIL is currently offering the J&J/Veridex CTC (Circulating Tumor Cell Detection in whole blood) assay for monitoring metastatic breast, colon and prostate cancers. EGFRvIII RT PCR Gene Expression -Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive brain tumor in adults and remains incurable despite multimodal intensive treatment regimens. EGFRvIII is a truncated extracellular mutant of the EGF receptor (EGFR) commonly found in GBMs that confers enhanced tumorigenic behavior. This assay was developed by the UCLA Neurological research team and the laboratory procedures has been validated by the BIL. The assay includes RNA extraction from 4-8 10 um thickness of tissue sections, reverse transcribe the RNA to cDNA synthesis and followed by SYBR Green Real Time PCR using Roche LightCycler 480.
